United Nations Young Professionals Programme (YPP) for all

The United Nations Young Professionals Programme (YPP) is a highly prestigious global recruitment initiative aimed at attracting exceptional, skilled, and motivated individuals who aspire to build a distinguished career as international civil servants within the United Nations Secretariat. The programme is designed to identify and nurture future leaders who are committed to advancing the UN’s mission of promoting peace, human rights, sustainable development, and international cooperation. By joining the YPP, successful candidates become part of a diverse and dynamic workforce dedicated to addressing some of the most pressing global challenges of our time.

The YPP is composed of two major components: a rigorous entrance examination and a structured professional development plan for selected candidates. The examination is held once every year in specific subject areas that align with the UN’s staffing needs, such as political affairs, human resources, social affairs, and public information. Only nationals of participating countries, which vary each year to ensure equitable geographic representation, are eligible to apply. Candidates must also meet the educational and age criteria outlined in the annual YPP announcement.

Those who successfully pass the examination are placed on a recruitment roster and may be offered professional positions at UN duty stations around the world. Once appointed, they embark on a journey of continuous learning through specialized training programs, mentorship, and on-the-job experience. This holistic approach equips them with the knowledge, leadership skills, and international exposure necessary to thrive within the UN system.

The application period for the YPP generally opens in June each year. Interested applicants are encouraged to visit the UN’s Inspira portal, where they can review eligibility criteria, available fields, and application guidelines. The Young Professionals Programme not only serves as a launching pad for a meaningful international career but also contributes to shaping a new generation of professionals dedicated to achieving the UN’s vision of global peace, equality, and progress.
